The Minnie Walk
Wilson Automotive employees came together once again to support this year’s Minnie Walk at CHOC. Dressed in their best outfits to fit the theme “Be a hero for kids,” associates put together an array of gift bags filled with toys, snacks, and coloring books to give out to the children. As in years past, a booth was set up with a prize wheel where the children could spin the wheel to receive gift cards and other fun prizes. In addition, some patients were given an extra special gift in partnership with Comfy Cozy’s for Chemo by the Amanda Hope Foundation. These shirts and dresses have zippers on both sides of the chest for easy access to central lines. This enables them to receive their treatments without having to fully undress. In addition, each item of clothing has an inside pocket to hold the 6-inch tubing and line clamp that can often irritate cancer patients’ chests. The children loved the brightly-colored clothing; and there were even tears of gratitude in many parents’ eyes as we described how these items would make treatments less stressful or painful for their little ones.
